Frequently Asked Questions
What is the focus of the program?
The focus of the MLA is to develop elite lacrosse players in Melbourne by giving them access to high level training both on the lacrosse field as well as in the gym. Building a strong foundation in strength and conditioning, developing speed and dexterity, and honing lacrosse skills, the MLA has the ultimate goal of promoting its players to state, national and international representation.
Where will the MLA be based?
We are currently negotiating a location to run lacrosse training year round. At this point, it is likely that the MLA will be based on the east side of the city. This will be confirmed by the end of 2024.
When will the MLA run?
The MLA will run from late February/early March until late November. We are planning to run 2 sessions per week (1.5-2 hours per session). The official schedule will be released once the dates for the LV season are announced.
Who can apply for the MLA?
For 2025, we are focusing on boys aged 13-17 who have excellent baseline abilities and who have the desire to play on state representative teams. We are hoping to expand to other age groups and to girls in the future.
How many players will be accepted?
We plan to have at least 8 but no more than 20 players per age group. This number will allow us to train in game situations but not overwhelm the weight room during S&C sessions. If there is enough demand, we may consider two groups (age- or skill-based) but that will depend on expressions of interest.
How much will it cost?
We are still determining the yearly costs associated with the program (field rental, coaching, equipment, etc). We aim to keep costs as low as possible and will depend on how many hours per week we can schedule.
